GROWNANDSEXY'S ARTIST OF THE MONTH JULY '10
   SWEET TEA

Artist of the Month - Sweet Tea

In 1994 the Entertainment Industry was taken by storm when the CEO of Massive B Records, Bobby Konders, released a Reggae remix of Tony Braxton’s Breathe Again. No one could predict then that a relatively unknown artist singing on the track by the name of Tricia “Sweet Tea” Lovell would become such a viable force that VP Records would dub the single a “straight away hit” and “one of the best reggae songs of the year.”

Still, that wasn’t where it all began. Born of Belizean / Jamaican heritage, no one was surprised when at the age of six Sweet Tea’s natural flow began to emerge. After moving permanently to the U.S., her skills where honed diligently and with a few chance meetings and some good musical chemistry, a star was in the making.

With the release of Breathe Again, Sweet Tea signed to the record label Relativity/Sony which led to the song garnering a music video which featured the vocal toasting of Baja Jedd, which in turn established her place in Reggae history by becoming a BET Channel (Black Entertainment Television) classic and opening doors for her to perform with many Rhythm & Blues, Reggae and Hip Hop artists such as MC Lyte, Biz Markie, The Wu Tang Clan, Bobby Konders and Jabba and Hot 97’s own Funk Master Flex. Recently, Sweet Tea’s musical talent was showcased and well received when she performed alongside Dancehall stars Beenie Man, Elephant Man,Sizzler Colange and most recently, Atlantic Records Recording Artist Baby Cham.

After a short hiatus “Sweet Tea” is once again recording with some of Reggae music’s production icons such as O’niel Clarke of Checkmate Records & Production, Phillip Smart of HC&F Recording Studio and Rickie “Mad Man” Myrie, one of Reggae’s premier musical production geniuses. With new and exciting tunes sure to showcase her lush vocals and versatility, Tricia “Sweet Tea” Lovell is ready to once again wear her crown and reign unanimously and no doubt, with everything she gives, her re-emergence has been well worth the wait.
